Summary

i wasn’t as invested the mystery part as i was about our main character’s every day life, tbh。 aza’s struggle with mental health and anxiety and intrusive thoughts were all too real and relatable。 even if not facing these challenges in the same way, i felt like i was reading about myself at some points

I bought Turtles All the Way Down years ago back when it released, but I don't really know why because I'd moved on from John Green's books and didn't really have the desire to read it。 However, I'm trying to get my TBR down and I've heard good things about this one, so when I saw the audiobook was available from my library I was finally prompted to pick it up。 It's been years since I last read a book by John Green and they were always hit or miss for me - and unfortunately I didn't like this on I bought Turtles All the Way Down years ago back when it released, but I don't really know why because I'd moved on from John Green's books and didn't really have the desire to read it。 However, I'm trying to get my TBR down and I've heard good things about this one, so when I saw the audiobook was available from my library I was finally prompted to pick it up。 It's been years since I last read a book by John Green and they were always hit or miss for me - and unfortunately I didn't like this one。The book focuses on Aza Holmes and her life navigating her anxiety and OCD。 In the book, a billionaire has gone missing and there is a big cash reward for information。 He happens to be the father of an old friend of Aza's, and the case causes them to reconnect。 I'd call this book a deep study into Aza, because there isn't much plot and the mystery kind of took a backseat to all of her thoughts。 Still, the portrayal of her OCD and anxiety feels very realistic and I felt I knew her character very well from the end。I don't really know what to say except I was bored for most of the book。 The plot was slow and I don't think I would have been motivated to pick it up if I wasn't listening to the audiobook。 Even though I could sometimes relate to the characters, they also really annoyed me at times so I found it hard to care about what was going on。 Mainly Daisy - she annoyed me from the beginning and improved a bit but I still didn't like her。 I was a bit interested in seeing Aza's character and health development, but the "mystery" aspect of the missing billionaire really didn't intrigue me at all。 I'm okay reading books with little plots if I'm really invested in the lives of the characters, but I wasn't for this book。 Be aware of big trigger warnings for a deep discussion of anxiety, OCD, intrusive thoughts, self harm。 I don't want to dismiss other peoples' experiences with OCD, so I acknowledge that I'm sure some people feel seen by this book。 I also believe that this is ownvoices for anxiety and OCD and it's great because mental health is definitely not explored enough in books。 However, even I felt uncomfortable hearing some of Aza's intrusive thoughts so this could potentially be triggering to people。 Overall, I don't think this is a bad book at all, but I just didn't really care about what was going on so it was hard to feel invested。 I do hope that some people find value in this book though - even though I didn't enjoy it, don't let that stop you picking it up。 。。。more

This was my first read by John Green, Turtles All the Way Down。 I've heard a lot about the author, his writing style and stories but this was my first read and I really loved and enjoyed this book。 John Green portrayed so clearly about the mental health issues, anxiety through the character of Aza。 The plot of the novel starts with the Pickett’s disappearance and leads us to Mental Health issues/anxiety of Aza。 A simple and short story in which you will go through a number of emotions and connec This was my first read by John Green, Turtles All the Way Down。 I've heard a lot about the author, his writing style and stories but this was my first read and I really loved and enjoyed this book。 John Green portrayed so clearly about the mental health issues, anxiety through the character of Aza。 The plot of the novel starts with the Pickett’s disappearance and leads us to Mental Health issues/anxiety of Aza。 A simple and short story in which you will go through a number of emotions and connections。 I also loved the connection between Aza and her mother, they both love each other but Aza never confesses her love for her because whenever she tries her thoughts hold her back saying that she is not a good daughter。This book has made me realise that not all stories have that typical cliché happy ending; it has also given me a great insight into the mind of a person like Aza, making me a lot more understanding when it comes to such topics。 In my opinion, this book was very skillfully written for it tackles tough issues such as loss or pain。 。。。more

I can’t believe how much this book made me think。 The writing is absolutely spectacular and I personally think this is John Greens best writing。 I loved the mental illness rep and especially the complex friendship between Aza and Daisy。

i forgot how much this book hurts。 but it’s almost a good hurt-one you don’t want to turn away from。 there has never been a book that so accurately describes my thoughts to me, and it’s a joy to read。

I read this book because I like the phrase that gives it a title。 I was sad that it would be a teenage love story but I think it actually did the awesomeness of the title justice。 The characters are likable and the plot is pretty good。 I found the description of the thought spirals very intriguing, if slightly panic inducing。

maybe a 3。5 it felt like one long intro, however i liked the writing style a lot。

I’m not sure about this one - I’d heard a lot of good things about it but I’m really not sure what I thought。 At some points I found myself enjoying the book, but most of the time I was just waiting for it to end; I think I’ve kind of outgrown John Green’s writing style, which is why I found this book so hard to get into。 Glad I read it as I’ve read all of his books, but not sure I’ll read this one again。

This is a solid 5 out of 5 stars。 As a person who isn't suffering from any mental illness but is eager to know what is like to have one, this book is the closest thing I have ever grasped on that has realistically portrayed the reality of mental illness。 I've read this last night and I still don't know how to express how I feel in coherent sentences because this book has touched me emotionally。 It's like having your own head but also being inside of another and you kinda just start to understand This is a solid 5 out of 5 stars。 As a person who isn't suffering from any mental illness but is eager to know what is like to have one, this book is the closest thing I have ever grasped on that has realistically portrayed the reality of mental illness。 I've read this last night and I still don't know how to express how I feel in coherent sentences because this book has touched me emotionally。 It's like having your own head but also being inside of another and you kinda just start to understand how different and valid they are。 Kudos to the author! 。。。more

P E R F E C T I O N 。 i have always loved john greens work and i’d say this is by far his best-maybe my new favorite singular book of all time。 as a person with diagnosed OCD and GAD i can confidently say that this is a perfect and well executed representation of spirals and mental illness, but also of the external consequences of it。 i laughed and cried throughout this book and will definitely read it again in the near future。

I wish I could give it a 4。5

I did appreciate the realistic portrayal of anxiety and OCD but overall, the book is not good。 I'm somewhat willing to forgive John Green for his pretentious, trying too hard to be quirky teen characters but the missing billionaire subplot was just stupid。 The romance was really unsatisfying--I never bought Aza and Davis as a couple but I wanted something more dramatic than things fizzling out。 I did appreciate the realistic portrayal of anxiety and OCD but overall, the book is not good。 I'm somewhat willing to forgive John Green for his pretentious, trying too hard to be quirky teen characters but the missing billionaire subplot was just stupid。 The romance was really unsatisfying--I never bought Aza and Davis as a couple but I wanted something more dramatic than things fizzling out。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Ok, 4 because at first it's so slow and boried but after change and is better, Aza is a good character her mind is a mess but she's strong and brave。。。 His love for Davis is beautiful, but John disappointed me and if John will publish a new book about Aza and Davis i would love it。 Ok, 4 because at first it's so slow and boried but after change and is better, Aza is a good character her mind is a mess but she's strong and brave。。。 His love for Davis is beautiful, but John disappointed me and if John will publish a new book about Aza and Davis i would love it。 。。。more

I really thought I wasn’t going to like this book。 Especially in the beginning。 I wasn’t too keen on the mystery but it turned out not to really be a mystery in this book and then I wasn’t too keen on another love story which I didn’t want this book to be。 What does book actually was is explaining mental illness in a way that makes sense to readers。 It’s relatable for people who have it and it makes sense to people who don’t experience it。 It also was a great example of communication between fri I really thought I wasn’t going to like this book。 Especially in the beginning。 I wasn’t too keen on the mystery but it turned out not to really be a mystery in this book and then I wasn’t too keen on another love story which I didn’t want this book to be。 What does book actually was is explaining mental illness in a way that makes sense to readers。 It’s relatable for people who have it and it makes sense to people who don’t experience it。 It also was a great example of communication between friends and possibly romantic relationships。 It shows that Not everyone is perfect and not every argument has a right and a wrong side。 This book also has a very lovely poetic side to it with in the writing and meta-wise in the characters 。。。more

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER! Since reading it I've been referred to be tested for OCD and it was this book that helped me realise that I needed to get help。 Despite all of that, it's a very interesting and wonderful story, I love John Green's writing so incredibly much。 His work is almost poetic, but in an understated way。 I reccomend this book to everyone! As someone who as OCD I like that Aza's depiction of OCD is very accurate and doesn't romanticize the mental illness like how many depictions do。 The plot was very easy to follow but sometimes felt slow and left wondering where the story was going to pick up。 I loved the ending though, I really like John Green's writing style and I have never been disappointed in any of his books。 I really enjoyed this book and the mystery that goes along with it。 As someone who as OCD I like that Aza's depiction of OCD is very accurate and doesn't romanticize the mental illness like how many depictions do。 The plot was very easy to follow but sometimes felt slow and left wondering where the story was going to pick up。 I loved the ending though, I really like John Green's writing style and I have never been disappointed in any of his books。 I really enjoyed this book and the mystery that goes along with it。 。。。more
